I've been listening with great skepticism to the details of President-Elect Obama's Economic Stimulus Plan. At first, it was hard for me to get past the idea of 600,000 new government jobs. Yeah, because we need a bigger government. The thing about these 600,000 "temporary" jobs rebuilding the infrastructure of the country it that government jobs never go away. The Computer Guy worked for the government for 14 years, and never saw a temp job that really was in all that time. In fact, they couldn't fire the people who needed to be fired then, why should we believe that they've grown a pair in the six months he's been in the private sector?
Eventually I moved on, and listened to the huge tax cut for the middle class that we're supposed to be getting. Pardon my cynicism here, but Democrats don't do tax cuts. They do big government and wealth redistribution. Socialism by any other name.....
Then I heard the details I was waiting for, our big tax cut was coming in the form of a one-time rebate check. That's not a tax cut. That's welfare. If you have to send me a check or electronically deposit it in my bank account, then it's NOT A CUT!!!!!! See, a cut would mean you never took it out of my husband's paycheck or anyone else's check to begin with. Taking it away from someone else and giving it to me is not a cut. It's Marxism.
Stop peeing on my leg and telling me it's raining! I'm smart enough to know when I'm getting hosed.
If democrats want to cut taxes, and they really do need to, then they should cut taxes. It would be much cheaper for the American people for us to have a real cut than for us to get rebate checks. Paper and stamps and envelopes are expensive when they are needed in mass quantities. We need a tax cut. Cut the taxes. Period. End of story.

so is this plan another check we won't qualify for?
I guess that depends how much money you make, Miss Scottie.
Well, it gets tricky when your husband owns his own company; on paper it may look as though we cross that "magic" threshold... but when you have to use a good portion of that money to make sure the business stays profitable etc, you don't make what "they" say you do. So it gets frustrating to watch people get a "rebate" check that we barely don't qualify for.
Plus in the area of the country in which we live, the median hosehold income is $170K so in that vein most of the households around me don't see that check.
I would prefer to keep more of my money to begin with than this artificial "Doesn't the government love me since they give me free money?" nonsense anyway.
Obama scares the *%$# out of me! Wealth redistribution is certainly NOT a cut. AND you are SOOOO right about the government jobs. Been there, seen that, too. Rah! Rah! You go girl!
Oh, btw, LOVE the baby picture!!!!
Preach it! The scary thing to me is that the majority of Americans can't even begin to understand this concept. So many of them actually believe the welfare state is the way it's SUPPOSED to be. Where are we headed the next 4 years? I'm honestly, genuinely concerned.
