***My apologies to my male readers. I'm talking undergarments today (in case you didn't get that from the title). You've been warned.***
I have a confession to make...I wrote about girdles yesterday because I was staring at a blank page with no ideas. I had no idea it would be so interesting to so many people. Several of you asked what kind of shapewear I'm wearing....and since yesterday proved that I have no boundaries...I'll tell you.
First, a quick disclaimer(required by the government) that none of these companies have paid for my endorsement in any way. If they'd like to send a few free samples as a thank you....I wouldn't turn it down.
A few of you recommended Spanx. I've tried them, and they just didn't hold the flab enough for me. If they work for you, great! You're a lucky girl. If you need something a bit stronger to tie down what you've got...then here are my picks.
For everyday wear, I really like the Flexees tanks. They look like a regular tank top but have a magic underneath layer that holds it all in. The are long enough to just below my hip bone. They are available in black and white. (I own both) I bought the maximum firm control. They don't roll up from the bottom and look great with a t-shirt and shorts/jeans. I really love that they smooth out the bubble of fat that comes up over my bra strap on my back. (You know that cute thing that grows by your arm pit? Gone. Like magic.)
If I'm smoothing out my waist, behind and thighs, it's the Miraclesuit extra firm control high waist thigh slimmer. It's a big long name, but it works. It stays in place as long as you don't get overly ambitious and buy one that's too small. It's especially good post baby for reminding that skin where it actually belongs. It's kinda hot in the summer, so if you're not going somewhere special, I'd skip this one when it's warm outside. (It's a girdle but they don't call it that.)
Need a better bra? I like the Bali Comfort-U minimizer. After nursing 6 babies, my girls have gone from a C to a DD. It keeps things locked in place and up front where they should be. I really like that it is designed to reduce bra bulge. (I'm not that fat. Even skinny girls get bra bulge.)
I'm also a fan of the Victoria's Secret Full Coverage Minimizer bra. It's feminine, pretty, does the job and their bras last FOREVER if you care for them properly.
Finally, if you are looking for a swimsuit that holds it all in....you have to try the Miraclesuit swimwear. Oh my goodness, y'all. Finally I don't feel as if I have to hide my post-baby body under a beach towel. Kinda pricey but totally worth it if you swim often.

Ha! Gotta live that Macy's used models that did not need support/shape wear! Thanks a lot, Macy's!
Thanks for all the links! At 42 and having had 7 babies, I don't think my extra flabwill ever be where it should be!
Seriously... this is my lenten suffering isnt it?
::cries::
My wife always says that she "doesn't read my blog, beacuse you [I] post about boring stuff" ... Maybe I should link to these posts and she will read...
:)
Yes, Joe, it is a part of your lenten suffering. I just knew you needed more penitential moments. As my grandma would say "offer it up."
Yes, yes, yes! I'm an extra firm (pardon the pun) believer in wearing a girdle or any other shapewear that will tuck in the repercussions of being 45 and having had nine children. I love feeling sexy and looking good in my clothes. I consider it 'taking care of the temple'. That's on the path to holiness, right? ;) Thanks for the article... glad to hear that this VERY important issue is finally out on the table (for the men to read, too!) Halleluia!
Kimberly,
You look amazing for having had nine children! Do you have any secrets to share with the rest of the class? ;0)
Why, thank you, sweet friend! (We are now besties, right? Too soon? Oh, okay.) ;)
My advice? Care. Care about yourself as much as you do every other area of your life. Care for yourself for 'you', for your husband, for the pride that you will see in your childrens' eyes. It's not a sin to take the time to make yourself attractive. The attention you as a 'mom of many' will ultimately lead others to embrace a life-giving love if they see that you are joyful in your vocation AND you look darn good doing it! :) In the end, it's all about attitude (and shapewear!). Thanks for asking! You're an amazing woman yourself!
Oops! Should read, "The attention you GAIN as a mom of many...."
Well, what about shapewear for the male post-McDonald's Big Mac Attack body? I'm feeling excluded.
Larry - "shapewear for the male post-McDonald's Big Mac Attack body" -- it's called bigger pants.
Nod - okay, that deals with half the problem. But what about the moobs? The flab just kinda flops around wherever it wants to, and it would be nice to keep the boys under better control, knowhutimean?
LarryD- Thanks for that visual. I now need eye bleach for my brain.
So do I.
I've only had one and my body is wrecked! hahahaha Who knew!
So today, I had on my "shapewear" with some capris....Not really paying attention when I left the house because I wasn't leaving the house today. I glanced over in the nice long mirror while walking through the store and you could see my shapewear!!! AAAHHHH!!!! I was mortified! :)
ERGH! I need new shapewear, is it on in the summer time? You realize I live in the deep south where it's 100+ all summer and sticky. :)
Larry - Eww. Too clever by half.
This post was helpful! I've always been tempted to buy something like a girdle. But I thought, I'm only 28 - do people do that at my age? I guess the answer is yes! I'm pregnant now, but as soon as we have this baby, in September, I'll be investing in some of this. Glad to hear your suggestions.
On another topic, call me a prude, but I refuse to shop at Victoria's secret. I thought their ads and magazines were bad enough (and I do realize that bra companies have to advertise.) Now they have a huge store at the mall in our city, which protrudes from the mall itself. The advertising posters are huge and awful, and I don't think it's an exaggeration to call them porn. Really don't want my husband and children to have to see that while going into the mall! I won't even shop at that mall now. I think it's wrong. Oh, and just as bad, I'll mention that one Christmas they had the Santa station for children to have their pictures taken set up right next to the VS? Anyway, I refuse to give that store my business.
Drina- I completely understand your opinions about VS. I'm not entirely comfortable shopping there. I don't feel as if I have much choice as they are the only store that will carry bras in my teenage daughter's size in plain white or nude. Every other store only has her size in bright, loud patterns that show through her clothes.
It's a sad day when Vickie's is the modest choice.
I can definitely understand your problem there. You gotta do what you gotta do. My kids are still very young. I know it won't be long, though, before my daughter gets to an age where it's nearly impossible to find anything made in her size that isn't slutty looking, or at least way too old for her age. Ugh. I really need to learn to sew :P
My unasked-for advice:
Why the minimizer bras? In my experience, regular bras (yes I wear a DD) make me look more youthful and proportional with my over-endowed middle, and make my clothes look better.
I'm sure this is individual and YMMV, but it might be worth a thought.
LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!
And they do make shapewear for men and for the Man Boobs!!
