The other day I overheard a conversation between my husband and a friend of his. The Computer Guy had just told him about #7 when his friend responded with the ever popular, "Don't you know what causes that?"
My sweet husband blandly retorted, "Yeah, and I keep knocking her off, but she keeps climbing back on."
Are you kidding me? That's our response? "I'm so hot my wife couldn't help herself?" Really?
I don't know whether to hide my face in shame or meet the world with a devilish grin.................. I think I'll go with grin and a knowing wink. Of all the husband's in the world....I get the dead-pan funny one?

My favorite response to the old "don't you know what causes that?" line is "Yes -- would you like me to explain it to you?"
hahahaha... our favorite response is, "Yes, and we're really good at it."
LOL!!!! That is hilarious!!!! Oh my gosh, I would be beet red!!! Too funny!
we also use the "Yes, and we're very good at it!"
dh even used it at a business dinner when some ancillary tag-a-long overheard about #8 (or 9) and delivered the oh so original "don't you know what causes that?" in a really snide/snotty manner. Dh says her eyes bugged out of her head at his response and she kept the rest of her commentary to herself.
There are people who just don't know what to say and fall back on a bad and old joke and some who are trying to be nasty. It is usually pretty obvious who falls into which camp.
Hahaha, my dh would love this! I'm only on #3 but I got asked this question for the first time recently... only I was completely unprepared for it and totally flubbed the amusing answer I'd been saving up for it. Oh well. I'm not sure I could answer "Yes and we're really good at it" with a straight face (this time the asker was someone I've known since I was a teen and my dad was standing right there too)... but maybe if I start hearing the question more and more it will be easier to say whatever comes to mind.
First of all, I had to jump on because a close friend of mine who blogs at Moving Right Along uses the expression "ack!" all the time and I was intrigued.
Second of all - that is a fantastic response. Good for him (and good for you ;)! )
When we used to have to "explain" our IF to people hubs used to say: we're not good at makin' em but we sure like tryin'. UGH!
Oh, really?!!! LOL
heeheehee
i have said "yes, i know what causes that- would you like to ask anymore inappropriately personal questions or are we done with that inquisition?"
