I've never been shy about feeling about the right of the people to own and use guns. I'm a fan of the 2nd Amendment. The recent actions of the State of New York concern me. The response of the gun companies make me so very proud.
Six gun companies have announced plans to stop selling any of their products to any government agency in states that severely limit the rights of private gun ownership.
Disappointed with New York State lawmakers and other jurisdictions around the country who have passed strict gun control legislation, the companies—composed of firearm manufacturers, gunsmiths, and sporting goods retailers—have announced these policies in the past week.
Their various statements emphasize that such laws create a class of government employees with rights and and a class of citizens without rights. Thus, they refuse to aid the enforcement of such inequality.

As the various state governments (mostly those up north) have begun trying to dis-arm their citizenry, I've wondered who would fight back against their encroachment. The politicians don't seem to be listening to the "gun-nuts" among us. The media either doesn't care or is outright encouraging to this power grab. The so-called Conservatives are too busy worrying about finances and taxes to pay much attention to the loss of liberty going on in front of them.
Which leaves the gun manufacturers themselves. God bless them. They are looking this in the face and refusing to help an over-reaching government disarm the people. The gun folks know that the 2nd Amendment isn't about hunting or target practice, it's about defending ourselves against the government and politicians. It's about remaining a free people.
My favorite quote of the piece above is "We will not sell arms to agents of the state of New York that hold themselves to be "more equal" than their citizens.
As long as the legislators of New York think they have the power to limit the rights of their citizens, in defiance of the Constitution, we at Templar will not sell them firearms to enforce their edicts."
I'm in favor of gun nuts who quote Orwell in their press releases.
Thank you to the 6 companies who have joined in this protest, and I hope the others (most notably -- Smith & Wesson, Glock, and Sig Sauer) will join them soon.
I'm sending the 6 companies thank you notes, and I invite you to join me.

Here's my favorite explanation of the 2nd Amendment. (Warning: they use the F word. It's Penn and Teller...they do that.)

This is such an important topic right now and it is disturbing (although not surprising) to see how the media is skewing the issue, both by showing all the bad way guns can be used, while ignoring anyone who was saved because someone had a gun, and at the same time acting as if the only reason we have a right to guns is for "sport."
I was really hoping that the general incompetence of the US government when getting anything done was going to prevent this administration from doing this much damage to personal liberty... however I'm afraid I was wrong. People are clammering to give up their liberties and this government is only so happy to take them from us.
We live in NY. We have never ever owned a gun. That is, until a few weeks ago. We decided it was time. Gun sales are through the roof now (so much for having less guns around). We bought two (amateur) guns, one of which is now illegal to buy. There is a HUGE populace fighting this but it is SO discouraging that the media is so transparent and as usual, New York City steers the rest of the state. The whole thing is a sham. People in this part of the state are mad as hell and there is a lot of talk of rebellion and official law enforcement agencies saying that they will NOT enforce this law. Times are getting crazy out here. There is supposed to be a huge rally in Albany on Feb. 28 and there are dozens of buses from our area going down. I really really hope it is successful. I can't take living in this state much longer. Thank you so much for the post.
Absolutely love it!!!! Thank you for sharing!!!!!
I haven't read about this, but at first glance I think they are putting a "protest of inequality" spin on their core decision.
I see it as a decision to protect the companies from the liabilities of deciding which orders are compliant with state laws and which orders are not.
Mary, I'm a native NYer, from downstate. The laws that have been passed in my home state disgust me. I hope never to live there again.
I'm currently living on the Left Coast and hoping to escape the idiocy here.
I love this post!!
Too bad that the ad running underneath is "NRA is wrong" with a link to "One Million Moms for Gun Control", ugh!!
My question to the gun-CONTROL nuts is, "How will any of these laws prevent the bad guys from getting guns?" Answer: It won't.
Our legislators are SOOOO smart. Take away the freedoms of the law- abiding people and empower the law-breakers.
Thanks for your post.
Sus
Love it!! I'll be writing thank yous, too. 1 million moms are for gun-control? What is the world coming to???

I'm sort of an agnostic on the gun-control issue, and I got hung up over a bit of phrasing on the video; just wanted to point out that the Revolutionary War was not fought against "tyrannical state militias". In the late 18th century and early 19th century, militias were groups of armed men set to guard a town or state, and the rebels fighting the Revolutionary War were primarily state militias fighting against the British national army. The United States didn't have a free-standing army until a couple of decades into the 19th century, due to Anti-Federalist opposition, and the militias understood as being referred to in the Constitution were the various state forces responsible for the security of the entire nation.
That's a really nitpicky point I suppose, as it doesn't negate the argument about the separation between the right of the militia and the right of the people, but it irked me a little that a video expounding upon the original meaning of the Constitution changed historical fact.
Sorry, I'm a self-admitted history nut :P Anyhow good point, love the blog, keep writing! :D
Ooh, yikes, just reread my comment and I sound really annoying. Erm, well, wish I could rewrite that in internet-speak or something! I have that problem way too often. Must be all those school essays I had to write....Anyhow, sorry!
